Luyten S.A.

Marche-les-Dames, Belgium

The history of the ‘Luyten’ plant at Marche-les-Dames goes back more than a century but it was only in 1993 that Recochem acquired Luyten S.A. and retained the company’s historic name.

Luyten S.A. manufactures refined, white color-stable Naphthalene that is converted to crystals, balls and sifted powder. The majority of the production is exported from the EU to many regions around the world. The most common use is as an insect repellant (moth ball). Luyten S.A is strategically located near Antwerp’s seaport, facilitating these exports.

Luyten S.A. is also Recochem Inc.’s primary location for making special grades of refined Naphthalene used in the manufacture of high technology abrasive products, including grinding wheels. High performance grinding wheels produced using refined Naphthalene are commonly used in the automotive and aerospace industries where there is demand for very precise tolerances and specification.

The Luyten site is Recochem’s only EU based operation, so it is also used as a distribution point for our European and African markets.
